     The communities around Goose Rocks Beach provide for diverse shopping: Biddeford and Saco offer lower prices for staples; Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Cape Porpoise provide a wide array of markets, gift emporia, boutiques, art galleries and other shops perfect for browsing.  Farther away, but within easy driving distance are Portland (the principal city of Maine which contains a large variety of shops in the old port section), and Freeport and Kittery with their large selection of factory outlets and discount stores.  

 

    Food, particularly LOBSTER, is offered in an array of restaurants and snack shops that dot the greater Kennebunkport area. These establishments cater to almost any taste and style.  Some are classic New England "take out" seafood shanties, offering a limited selection in a rustic atmosphere, while still others provide fine dining in an elegant setting.  

 

    Amusements abound throughout the region.  History buffs appreciate the picturesque old houses in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, many of which were built by captains of the famous clipper ships. Cape Porpoise and Kennebunkport are active fishing ports and the coming and going of lobster boats, yachts and the wharf activities provide for fascinating watching. If you prefer more active water pursuits, you can wade, swim, surf, or hire a boat to sail, kayak, fish or sign on to go whale watching. Golfers can take advantage of the area courses, from those provided by amusement parks, pitch and putt, or a full 18 holes.  

 

    Romantics can dine overlooking the water, take a stroll along the beach at Goose Rocks and enjoy the sunset over the tidal marshes or moon rise over the ocean.  If you are in Kennebunkport for dinner you could walk along the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

 

    Other amusements include: museums specializing in trolleys, the area history; movies , theater, horse and car racing; amusement parks and water parks; a public library; fishing; bicycling; wind surfing; bird watching; lessons in sailing; tennis; and swimming.
